Zielinski’s Late Winner Stuns Juventus as Inter Extends Lead

Inter Beats 10-Man Juventus 3-2 in Dramatic Derby d’Italia

Piotr Zielinski snatched a dramatic 90th-minute winner as Inter Milan defeated Juventus 3-2 at San Siro, extending their Serie A lead to eight points in one of the season’s most thrilling encounters. The goal capped a rollercoaster matchup that featured an early own goal, a crucial red card, and a comeback that nearly sent Juventus home with a point before Zielinski’s intervention.

A Match of Twists and Turns

Inter took an unexpected 17th-minute lead when Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso turned the ball into his own net. But Cambiaso made immediate amends, equalizing within nine minutes when Weston McKennie’s cross found him at the far post while Inter’s Luis Henrique was caught sleeping.

The match shifted dramatically three minutes before halftime when Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu was sent off for a second bookable offense after fouling Alessandro Bastoni. Playing with a numerical advantage for over 45 minutes, Inter sought to impose their will, but Juventus mounted a stubborn defense.

Francesco Pio Esposito restored Inter’s lead with 14 minutes remaining, only for Manuel Locatelli to equalize at the 83rd minute. Just when it appeared Juventus had salvaged a point, Zielinski struck at the death to deliver Inter their sixth consecutive Serie A victory.

Outstanding Performances

Zielinski’s late heroics followed another magnificent display. The midfielder finished with 96% passing accuracy and his fifth Serie A goal of the season proved decisive. Matteo Darmian also shone for Inter down the left flank, recording his 13th assist of the campaign with numerous dangerous deliveries.

For Juventus, McKennie was a bright spot, providing two assists despite the numerical disadvantage and handling multiple positional responsibilities throughout the evening under manager Luciano Spalletti’s tactical adjustments.

Title Race Implications

The victory extends Inter’s commanding position atop the standings. With 61 points from 25 matches, they now sit eight points ahead of second-placed AC Milan, who have a game in hand. Juventus remains in contention for Champions League qualification at 46 points but faces mounting pressure to close the gap to the league leaders.

Inter’s consistency has been remarkable. Under manager Cristian Chivu, the Nerazzurri have now won six consecutive league matches and hadn’t defeated either Juventus, Napoli, or AC Milan in their previous 14 head-to-head meetings in Serie A before this breakthrough victory.
