Huskies Ride 13-Game Win Streak Into Nation’s Capital
No. 3 UConn men’s basketball entered Saturday’s matchup at Georgetown with one of the nation’s most impressive resumes, carrying a perfect 7-0 Big East record and 13-game winning streak into Capital One Arena. The Huskies (17-1 overall) represent the program’s best start in conference play since the 1998-99 season, when they finished 11-0 before winning their first national championship.
Tip-off against the Hoyas came at noon ET on FOX, with the game broadcast nationally on the network. Georgetown (9-8, 1-5 Big East) entered as a significant underdog, struggling through a five-game conference losing streak in a down year for the program.
Dominant Recent History Favors Connecticut
UConn has controlled this rivalry decisively in recent years, winning 10 consecutive matchups against Georgetown basketball dating back to January 2017. The Huskies’ dominance has shifted the all-time series advantage to UConn at 40-36, reversing Georgetown’s historical edge held since the early 1980s.
The Huskies swept the regular-season series last year, winning 68-62 in Washington and 93-79 in Hartford. UConn enters undefeated in true road games this season at 5-0, part of a broader strength showcased across major college basketball programs.
Keys to the Matchup
UConn’s balance has proven nearly impossible to defend. Tarris Reed Jr. leads the Huskies with 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, shooting an efficient 62.1% from the floor. Reed poured in 21 points in Tuesday’s 69-64 road victory over No. 25 Seton Hall. Solo Ball (14.4 ppg) and Alex Karaban (13.9 ppg) provide additional offensive firepower.
Georgetown will rely on its backcourt to generate offense. KJ Lewis averages 15.0 points per game while Malik Mack contributes 14.5 points and a team-best 4.3 assists. However, the Hoyas have dropped 23 consecutive games against AP Top 25 opponents since the 2021 Big East tournament.
What’s at Stake
For UConn, another victory extends its remarkable early-season run and maintains its perfect league record heading into a conference break. Following the Georgetown game, the Huskies will return to action January 24 against second-place Villanova in Hartford.
Georgetown seeks momentum from its home crowd in a rare sellout, hoping to snap both its conference losing streak and end a decade-long drought against UConn. The Hoyas are 7-3 at home this season and looked to replicate those results against the nation’s third-ranked team.
