Thousands Report Access Issues as Tumblr Down Friday
Tumblr experienced a widespread outage Friday that left thousands of users unable to access the microblogging platform, according to multiple downtime tracking services. Downdetector reported over 18,000 users had submitted problems as of 3:48 p.m. PST, with the majority citing issues on the mobile application.
The outage affected both Tumblr’s website and mobile app, preventing users from accessing their dashboards, loading posts, and using direct messaging features. Many users who managed to access their dashboards reported seeing zero posts except advertisements prompting them to download the app.
User Frustration Spreads Across Social Media
The platform’s struggles quickly became a trending topic on social media as frustrated users voiced their complaints. “The first time I feel like going on Tumblr in a while and it’s down,” one user said on X. Another remarked, “Still can’t get in. Let me in!” The complaints highlighted how the outage coincided with renewed interest from users attempting to return to the platform.
No Official Statement From Tumblr
As of publication, Tumblr has not issued a public statement acknowledging the outage or providing information about its cause. StatusGator’s monitoring showed 488 user-submitted outage reports in the past 24 hours, with issues spanning multiple countries including the United States, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Tumblr users reported problems loading the app, accessing sign-in functions, and receiving error messages. The platform’s lack of communication has left users uncertain about when service will be fully restored.
