Ciampa Debuts as ‘Psycho Killer’ in AEW, Eyes TNT Title

Veteran Wrestler Makes Dramatic AEW Entrance Following WWE Exit

Tommaso Ciampa made his All Elite Wrestling debut Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite, answering Mark Briscoe’s open challenge for the TNT Championship in a dramatic lights-out segment that sent the crowd into a frenzy.[1][2] The 40-year-old veteran, now operating under the “Psycho Killer” persona, appeared silently in the ring and went face-to-face with Briscoe before kissing him on the cheek and departing.[1][2]

The match between Ciampa and Briscoe is officially scheduled for AEW Collision this Saturday night, marking Ciampa’s first in-ring wrestling appearance since departing WWE earlier this month.[4] AEW President Tony Khan confirmed Ciampa’s signing immediately following his debut, making the veteran’s status official.[2]

From WWE to Wrestling’s Biggest Independents

Ciampa concluded a 10-year run with WWE after his contract expired without renewal.[2][5] During his tenure, he captured the NXT Championship twice and became a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion alongside longtime partner Johnny Gargano as part of the legendary #DIY faction.[2][5]

His departure marked the end of a storied WWE chapter, but Ciampa signaled his intention to continue wrestling for another decade while accepting bookings across promotions.[2] The debut on AEW Dynamite confirms that trajectory is already underway.

Briscoe’s TNT Reign on the Line

Briscoe successfully defended his TNT Championship earlier in the Dynamite episode against El Clon before issuing the open challenge that brought Ciampa to the ring.[1][4] The “Sussex County Chicken” has held the title for 68 days and faced notable challengers including Daniel Garcia and Hechicero.[4]

Ciampa’s history with Briscoe adds intrigue to their upcoming collision. The two competed multiple times during Ciampa’s stint in Ring of Honor between 2011 and 2015, battling against both Mark and his late brother Jay.[3]

New Era, New Character

The “Psycho Killer” branding signals a fresh chapter for Ciampa outside WWE.[1] He filed trademarks for the name and launched merchandise featuring both “Psycho Killer” and “Psycho Kid” branding through his Pro Wrestling Tees store before his debut.[1] The silent entrance and physical psychology used during his Dynamite appearance established the character’s unpredictable nature immediately.

Ciampa joins a recent wave of high-profile talent acquisitions by AEW, bolstering the roster ahead of Saturday’s card on AEW Collision.[3]
