Charitable TikTok Creator Who Dedicated Life to Homeless Communities Passes Away
Shirley Raines, the TikTok creator known as “Miss Shirley” who used her social media platform to serve thousands of people experiencing homelessness across Los Angeles and Las Vegas, has died at 58.
The founder and CEO of the nonprofit Beauty 2 the Streetz announced her passing on Wednesday through a Facebook statement. Her cause of death has not been disclosed, though one account noted she passed after a brief illness.
Raines gained widespread recognition for her livestreams and viral videos in which she provided hair, makeup, food, and clothing to vulnerable communities on Skid Row and beyond. Through her tireless advocacy, she transformed her powerful media presence into a lifeline for underserved populations, bringing dignity and resources to those society often overlooks.
From Personal Tragedy to National Recognition
In 2017, Raines attended a church trip to Skid Row, a notoriously impoverished area in downtown Los Angeles, where she discovered her calling. “I’m like, ‘Oh, this is where all the broken people are? Oh, I’ve been looking for y’all all my life,” she later told CNN. “I never wanted to leave. It’s a place where people have amazing hearts, but nobody can see it.”
That visit sparked the creation of Beauty 2 the Streetz, which grew into a registered 501(c)(3) organization serving homeless communities across multiple states. Her work earned her the distinction of CNN Hero of the Year in 2021, alongside a $100,000 grant to expand her mission.
A Legacy of Compassion and Service
“It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that Beauty 2 The Streetz announces the passing of our beloved CEO and founder,” the organization stated. “Ms. Shirley dedicated her life to serving others and made an immeasurable impact on homeless communities throughout Los Angeles and Nevada.”
Born and raised in Southern California, Raines transformed personal hardship into a lifelong commitment to uplifting others. Beyond providing essential services, she used her platform to amplify the voices of those experiencing homelessness and challenge public perceptions about human worth and dignity.
Her influence extended far beyond social media metrics. Community leaders and nonprofit volunteers nationwide expressed deep grief over her passing, remembering her warmth, resilience, and unwavering dedication to serving the most vulnerable members of society. Her nonprofit organization continues her work, honoring the thousands of lives she touched through her generosity and compassionate service.
