Sydney Sweeney Faces Potential Criminal Charges Over Hollywood Sign Lingerie Stunt
Actress Sydney Sweeney may face criminal charges of trespass and vandalism after climbing the iconic Hollywood Sign and hanging bras on it as a publicity stunt for her new lingerie line. The incident, captured in video obtained by TMZ, shows the Christy star scaling the emblematic landmark under cover of darkness with her production crew.
According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the sign, Sweeney’s production company was not granted permission to touch or use the landmark for commercial purposes. While the team secured a film permit from FilmLA, the permit did not authorize climbing or modifying the sign itself.
Stunt Details and Lingerie Line Launch
In the video, Sweeney is shown climbing the “H” section of the Hollywood Sign and stringing up a clothesline of bras across the letters. The stunt was designed to promote the launch of her new lingerie business venture. According to reports, the line is backed by billionaire Jeff Bezos through his investment firm Coatue Management, which recently received a $1 billion injection from Bezos, his wife Lauren Sánchez, and Michael Dell.
After taking photos and filming the promotional video, Sweeney’s crew removed most of the bras from the sign. However, four to five bras were reportedly left behind at the location.
Legal Jeopardy and Hollywood Chamber Response
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce sent an email to Sweeney’s production company clarifying that no permission had been granted for the stunt. “There was no permission granted to do this as is required,” the Chamber’s Chair told TMZ. The organization has not yet confirmed whether it will file a police report for trespass or vandalism charges.
In the worst-case scenario, Sweeney could face criminal penalties. As of now, no agreement has been reached between her production company and the Hollywood Chamber regarding use of the sign.
