Enciso Double Leads Strasbourg Past Monaco in Cup

Paraguayan Star Shines as Strasbourg Advances in Copa de Francia

RC Strasbourg defeated AS Monaco 3-1 on Wednesday in the Round of 16 of the Copa de Francia, securing a quarterfinal berth behind a stellar performance from Paraguayan midfielder Julio Enciso, who scored twice at Stade de la Meinau.

Enciso’s brace capped an impressive night for the hosts, who controlled much of the contest and thoroughly outplayed the visiting Monegasques. The 22-year-old midfielder has become a central figure for Strasbourg, displaying the technical quality and composure that has caught the attention of major European scouts.

Early Momentum Builds Victory

English forward Martial Godo opened scoring just seven minutes into the match, setting an aggressive tone that Strasbourg would maintain throughout the evening. Godo extended his recent scoring form with the opener, adding to his tally of five goals in his last five appearances.

Enciso doubled the advantage in the 55th minute with an expertly taken finish following an assist from Argentine left-back Valentín Barco. The combination between the South American duo showcased the chemistry Strasbourg has developed among its younger talent.

Monaco pulled one back through Danish striker Mika Biereth in the 68th minute, briefly threatening a comeback. However, Enciso’s composure proved decisive, completing his brace just three minutes later to seal the result and effectively end any hopes of a dramatic turnaround.

Youth Movement Powers Strasbourg

The victory highlighted Strasbourg’s reliance on youth, with three South American players under 24 years old—Enciso, Barco, and Argentine midfielder Joaquín Panichelli—all featured from the start. This young core has become integral to the club’s ambitious season.

The win advances Strasbourg to face Reims, the current leaders of France’s second tier, in the quarterfinals. Strasbourg currently sits seventh in Ligue 1 with 30 points, while Monaco occupies 10th place with 27 points, having dropped into the secondary competition after elimination.
