Seahawks Win Super Bowl LX: Defense Dominates in 29-13 Victory

Seahawks Capture Second Lombardi Trophy with Dominant Defensive Performance

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, capturing the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship in history. The Seahawks’ suffocating defense, nicknamed the “Dark Side,” overwhelmed Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throughout the contest, sacking him seven times and forcing three turnovers.

Super Bowl Scores by Quarter

The Seahawks’ defensive dominance was evident from the opening kickoff:

  • First Quarter: Seahawks 3, Patriots 0
  • Second Quarter: Seahawks 9, Patriots 0 (Halftime)
  • Third Quarter: Seahawks 12, Patriots 0
  • Fourth Quarter: Seahawks 29, Patriots 13 (Final)

The Patriots failed to score until the fourth quarter, when Maye connected with wide receiver Mack Hollins for a 35-yard touchdown with 12:27 remaining. New England added another touchdown late in the game but never threatened to overtake the Seahawks.

Super Bowl MVP and Offensive Standout

Running back Kenneth Walker III earned Super Bowl MVP honors, carrying the ball 27 times for 135 yards. Walker was instrumental in Seattle’s ground game, controlling the tempo and keeping the Patriots’ offense off the field. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards with one touchdown, managing the game effectively without needing an explosive passing performance.

Defensive Masterclass

Seattle’s defense was relentless. Three different Seahawks registered two sacks each: Derick Hall, Byron Murphy, and Devon Witherspoon. Murphy also recovered a fumble. Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu recorded a 44-yard pick-six, and safety Julian Love added an interception. The Patriots managed only 331 total yards of offense and struggled particularly in the second half, recording just one first down after halftime.

Maye’s Difficult Night

Despite an impressive regular season that earned him runner-up status for regular-season MVP, Drake Maye had a disappointing football game, finishing 27 of 43 for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Patriots quarterback faced consistent pressure and struggled early, accumulating just 48 passing yards in the first half.

Macdonald’s Championship Team

Head coach Mike Macdonald’s two-year tenure with the Seahawks has resulted in building one of the NFL’s elite defensive units that performed when it mattered most. The victory caps a triumphant season for Seattle, which dominated opponents throughout the playoffs on their way to hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
