Veteran WR Robert Woods Retires After 13 NFL Seasons
Robert Woods announced his retirement from professional football this week, bringing an end to a 13-year NFL career marked by success with multiple teams and a championship run with the Los Angeles Rams.[1][2]
The veteran wide receiver signed a one-day contract with the Rams on Tuesday to retire with the organization, the team announced. “After 27 unforgettable years of pouring my heart into this game, and 13 incredible years in the NFL — It’s time for me to step away from playing the sport that has given me everything,” Woods wrote in his retirement statement.[2]
Career Highlights and Championships
Woods, 33, achieved his greatest success during his five seasons with Los Angeles from 2017 to 2021. The receiver recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 (1,219 yards) and 2019 (1,134 yards) and won Super Bowl LVI with the 2021 Rams squad, despite suffering an ACL tear during that championship regular season.[1][2]
Playing Career and Statistics
Originally selected by the Buffalo Bills as a second-round pick in 2013, Woods spent four seasons in Buffalo before joining the Rams. Following his time in Los Angeles, he played for the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans.[1][2]
Woods appeared in 171 NFL games across four teams, finishing his career with impressive statistics: 683 receptions for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns.[2] His last regular-season game came in 2024 with the Houston Texans. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025 but was released on September 2 and did not appear in any games for the team.[1]
