Professional Tennis Player Makes Historic Move to Represent Central Asian Nation
Kamilla Rakhimova, a 24-year-old professional tennis player, has officially switched nationalities to represent Uzbekistan, marking a significant development in women’s professional tennis. The Uzbekistan Tennis Federation confirmed the change in December 2025, elevating Rakhimova to one of only two players in the top 200 world rankings competing under the nation’s flag.
The Yekaterinburg-born athlete had represented Russia throughout her career before making the transition. “The arrival of Kamila Rakhimova to the Uzbekistan national team is an event of historic significance,” said Sador Kamilov, Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation, highlighting the importance of securing the rising talent for the Central Asian nation.
Building Momentum on the Professional Circuit
Rakhimova tennis has showcased impressive progress in recent seasons, with career achievements solidifying her status as a competitive force. In 2024, she reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 60, and her 2025 season demonstrated continued growth. Most notably, Kamilla Rakhimova defeated world No. 5 Jasmine Paolini at Wimbledon, marking her first victory over a top-10 ranked opponent at a Grand Slam tournament.
Additional highlights from 2025 include reaching the quarterfinals at Eastbourne as a qualifier and capturing a WTA 125 title at Angers, France. She has consistently reached the third round at three of the four Grand Slam tournaments, establishing herself as a reliable performer on tennis’ biggest stages.
Playing Style and Career Foundation
The right-handed player, standing 5’6″, favors hard courts and is coached by Yulia Pilchikova. Rakhimova began playing tennis at age five and turned professional in 2018, building a solid foundation through ITF Circuit titles before transitioning to the WTA Tour in 2019. Her game is characterized by powerful groundstrokes and court agility.
