Baltimore Ravens Name Jesse Minter Fourth Head Coach in Franchise History
The Baltimore Ravens have hired Jesse Minter as their next head coach, the team announced Thursday. Minter, 42, becomes the fourth head coach in franchise history, succeeding John Harbaugh, who was fired earlier this month after 19 seasons leading the organization.
Minter, most recently the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator, comes to Baltimore with an impressive track record building elite defenses. Under his leadership, the Chargers ranked among the top five in the NFL in points per game, total yards allowed, passing yards allowed, interceptions (34), and opposing red zone percentage since the start of the 2024 season.
Harbaugh Tree Connection
The Ravens’ decision to bring in Minter represents a return to the coaching philosophy that defined their recent success. Prior to joining the Chargers, the defensive-minded coach spent two seasons as Michigan’s defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh, helping the Wolverines win the national championship in 2023. Before that, Minter worked under John Harbaugh with the Ravens from 2017-2020 as a defensive assistant, giving him intimate familiarity with the organization’s culture and standards.
“Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with our players and fanbase alike,” Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport, and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward.”

Minter emerged as one of the top head coaching candidates this offseason following his defensive success. His hiring marks a significant moment in the Ravens’ coaching search, as Baltimore quickly moved to secure its target after the ravens new head coach vacancy became one of the most coveted positions in professional sports.
