Boilermakers Continue Dominant Run at Home
No. 5 Purdue picked up another Big Ten victory on Saturday, extending its impressive six-game winning streak with a dominant performance against Penn State at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Boilermakers proved why they rank among the nation’s elite, controlling much of the matchup against a Nittany Lions team still seeking its first conference win.
Strong Offensive Display
Purdue’s offensive efficiency shined throughout the contest, with the team shooting effectively from the field and moving the basketball with precision. Point guard Braden Smith led the Boilermakers with 23 points, orchestrating the offense as the nation’s leader in assists. Forward Trey Kaufman-Renn contributed a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, continuing his impressive stretch in Big Ten play with three double-doubles in just four conference games.
Purdue Basketball Dominance at Home
The victory underscores Purdue basketball’s remarkable home record under head coach Matt Painter, who now stands 149-37 (.801) against Big Ten opponents in Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers have won three straight against Penn State by a combined 45 points and maintain a 24-3 all-time home record against the Nittany Lions. Purdue has scored at least 75 points in seven consecutive home games versus Penn State dating to 2017.
Continued Momentum
With the win, Purdue improved to 4-0 in Big Ten play for the first time since the 2017-18 season, when the team started 12-0. The Boilermakers have now achieved a 14-1 record for the third time in four years, matching the best 15-game start in school history. Over the past four Januarys, Purdue owns a 26-3 record (.897) in the month, the second-best nationally behind Saint Mary’s.

Following their homestand, Purdue heads to the West Coast for upcoming contests against USC and UCLA. Penn State, which nearly pulled an upset over No. 2 Michigan earlier in the week, continues its struggle for Big Ten wins.
