Legend Continues Recording With New ‘Inspirations of Life and Love’ Album
At 84 years old, legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka released his highly anticipated new studio album Inspirations of Life and Love this week, proving the music icon shows no signs of slowing down after seven decades in the industry.[1] The album, released February 13 via Green Hill Music/Sun Label Group, features 11 lushly orchestrated songs combining beloved hits with brand new music perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day.[1]
“Life and Love was unlike anything I’ve done in the last few years,” Anka said in a statement. “I’m very into the music and the arrangements and the message that we’re trying to give and it’s my gift to all of you.”[1]
Career Milestone for Prolific Songwriter
The new album marks one of more than 130 recordings in Anka’s expansive catalog.[2] Inspirations of Life and Love was recorded primarily in Anka’s home studio in California, with symphony orchestra accompaniment recorded in Budapest.[1] The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digitally via Dolby Atmos.[1]
Anka remains the only artist in history to have a song in the Billboard Top 100 during seven consecutive decades, having achieved his first number 1 hit with “Diana” at just 15 years old.[1] His songwriting legacy includes iconic compositions like the theme for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson—television’s longest-running theme—and the Academy Award-nominated theme for the 1962 film The Longest Day.[1]
Recent Collaborations and Recognition
Anka continues collaborating with contemporary artists. His 2018 work with Michael Jackson and Drake on “Don’t Matter to Me” garnered over 400 million downloads and reached the top 10 on Billboard charts.[1] His recent albums Making Memories (2021) and Sessions (2022) featured collaborations with Olivia Newton John, Michael Bublé, and Andrea Bocelli.[1]
What’s Next for the Icon
The songwriter recently sat down with CBS News Sunday Morning to discuss his songwriting process and seven-decade career in music.[1] His documentary film Paul Anka: His Way, which premiered on HBO December 1, is currently streaming on HBO Max.[1] Anka’s U.S. tour resumes March 4, with shows scheduled across Florida, the Northeast, and Las Vegas.[1]
