Northeastern Athletics Face Mixed Results Across Winter Sports

Northeastern University’s athletic programs have experienced a challenging stretch in recent weeks, with mixed results across multiple winter sports as the program continues to compete in competitive conference matchups.

Women’s Basketball Struggles Continue

The Northeastern women’s basketball team fell to Monmouth 65-56 on Wednesday morning at OceanFirst Bank Center, dropping the Huskies to 6-12 overall and 2-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Sophomore guard Camryn Collins led the team with 14 points, while freshman Kailee Beaudion-Foliaki added 10 points on a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line. The Huskies struggled early, falling behind 18-11 in the first quarter and facing a 36-20 deficit at halftime. Northeastern shot just 42.9% in the second half but couldn’t overcome Monmouth’s early dominance. The team returns home to host Drexel on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. for its National Girls and Women in Sports Day game.

Men’s Basketball Drops Tight Contest

On January 24, Northeastern men’s basketball narrowly fell to Drexel University 83-78 in Philadelphia. Senior LA Pratt led the Huskies with 17 points per game this season, but the effort proved insufficient against the Dragons. The loss marked another setback for the program, which stands at 6-13 following the defeat.

Women’s Hockey Sweeps UConn

On a brighter note, Northeastern’s women’s hockey team swept the University of Connecticut during a winter storm, delivering a dominant performance. Sophomore forward Éloïse Caron opened scoring late in the first period, and graduate student forward Jaden Bogden capitalized on a power play in the final seconds to give Northeastern a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Swim and Dive Dominates Competition

The Northeastern swim and dive team maintained winning form on senior day, dominating Stony Brook 178-98 on January 24. The victory improved the team’s record to 6-2 on the season.

Spring Baseball on the Horizon

Looking ahead, Northeastern baseball will face the University of Maine at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field in Portland on April 29. The matchup marks the first game between the programs in Portland since 2012 and represents an important nonconference opportunity for both programs.
