Nicolas Cage Takes On Spider-Noir in Prime Video Series

Nicolas Cage Stars in Marvel’s Darkest Spider-Man Adaptation Yet

Nicolas Cage is trading superheroes for noir as Marvel’s Spider-Noir arrives on Prime Video on May 27, 2026. The eight-episode limited series marks a dramatic departure from traditional Spider-Man stories, reimagining the web-slinger as Ben Reilly, a hardened private detective navigating the seedy underbelly of 1930s New York City.

Unlike Peter Parker in previous Spider-Man adaptations, this version positions Cage as an aging, world-weary vigilante rongé by regrets. Reilly was once a masked hero known simply as “The Spider,” but he abandoned that life following a personal tragedy. A mysterious investigation forces him out of hiding and back into the costume he thought he’d left behind forever.

A Pulp Noir Vision Like Nothing Else

The series embraces a distinctly retro aesthetic, available in both traditional color and black-and-white versions—a nod to classic pulp detective stories. Showrunner Oren Uziel explained that the choice of Ben Reilly over Peter Parker allows the team to craft a protagonist aligned with noir sensibilities: older, broken down, and without the heroic optimism associated with younger Spider-Man iterations.

“He’s a guy who’s not above punching someone when drunk,” producer Phil Lord described the character, while co-producer Chris Miller added that Reilly has already lived through his moment of disillusionment well before the series begins.

A Stellar Supporting Cast

Cage anchors a powerhouse ensemble featuring:

  • Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) as Silvermane, a crime boss targeted by multiple assassination attempts
  • Jack Huston (Fargo) as Sandman (Flint Marko)
  • Li Jun Li (Babylon) as Cat Hardy, a nightclub singer and femme fatale
  • Lamorne Morris (New Girl) as journalist Robbie Robertson
  • Karen Rodriguez as part of the ensemble cast

Behind-the-Scenes Talent

The creative team includes prestigious names. Harry Bradbeer, director of acclaimed series Fleabag and Killing Eve, helms the first two episodes. Steve Lightfoot, known for his work on Netflix’s The Punisher, serves as co-showrunner alongside Uziel. Producer Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal—key figures in Marvel’s Spider-Verse success—oversee the project.

From Voice to Live-Action

Cage previously lent his distinctive voice to Spider-Noir in the critically acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This marks his first time bringing the character to live-action, offering audiences an entirely fresh take on the Marvel property adapted specifically for streaming.

With its unique visual approach, noir-soaked storytelling, and Cage’s powerhouse performance, Spider-Noir positions itself as Marvel’s grittiest television venture to date.
