Mets Land Peralta and Myers in Blockbuster Trade

Mets Acquire All-Star Pitcher Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers in Major Trade With Brewers

The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta and fellow pitcher Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers in a significant trade, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday night. The Mets sent top prospects Jett Williams, an infielder, and Brandon Sproat, a right-handed pitcher, to Milwaukee in the deal.

A Major Rotation Addition

Peralta, who will turn 30 next June, is heading to New York on the final year of his contract, owed just $8 million in 2026 before reaching free agency. The trade marks the Mets’ second major move of the offseason, following the signing of free agent Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns had strongly hinted earlier Wednesday that adding a pitcher to the rotation remained a priority. “That remains my preference,” Stearns said. “It doesn’t mean it’s a certainty that we’re going to do it, but, yes, that would be my preference.”

Peralta’s Strong Resume

The right-hander comes off arguably his best season in 2025, posting a 17-6 record with a 2.70 ERA over 33 starts, leading the National League in victories. He logged 204 strikeouts and reached 200 strikeouts for a third straight season, earning his second NL All-Star selection and finishing fifth in NL Cy Young Award voting.

Over his eight seasons with Milwaukee, Peralta holds a 70-42 record with a 3.59 ERA. The veteran has demonstrated consistent excellence and the potential for further growth, according to Brewers manager Pat Murphy, who noted “there’s a step to take” in his development.

Myers Adds Depth

Myers, the right-handed pitcher also heading to Queens, provides additional depth to the New York rotation under long-term control. His inclusion in the trade alongside Peralta strengthens the Mets’ starting pitching prospects for 2026 and beyond.

Prospects Headed to Milwaukee

The Brewers acquire Jett Williams, ranked as a top-three prospect in the Mets system by MLB.com, and Brandon Sproat, also among the organization’s elite prospects. While some observers questioned whether the Brewers received sufficient value for two big league pitchers, the team secured young talent to develop for the future as part of their long-term strategy.
