Majeski Leads Truck Field as NASCAR Series Kicks Off at Daytona

Ty Majeski claimed the pole position Friday night as the NASCAR Truck Series opened its 2026 season at Daytona International Speedway, setting the stage for a competitive truck race at Daytona that marked the start of the speedway’s annual Speedweeks festivities.

Majeski, who turned a lap time of 50.881 seconds for an average speed of 176.883 mph, will lead the field in a 100-lap, 250-mile Daytona truck race featuring stage breaks at 20, 40, and 100 laps. Michael McDowell secured the second starting position with a time of 50.938 seconds, while Tanner Gray rounded out the top three at 51.074 seconds.

The NASCAR truck series Daytona race represents the first of three national series events scheduled for the speedway this week, following The Clash exhibition race earlier this month and preceding Sunday’s 68th Daytona 500. The truck race Daytona 2026 lineup includes notable drivers competing across the 37-car field.

Top Starting Positions

  • Ty Majeski — 50.881 seconds
  • Michael McDowell — 50.938 seconds
  • Tanner Gray — 51.074 seconds
  • Carson Hocevar — 51.111 seconds
  • Grant Enfinger — 51.167 seconds

The truck series competition continues NASCAR’s tradition of using Daytona’s iconic 2.5-mile superspeedway to launch its racing calendar. The qualifying format allowed the full field to complete one lap, with the top 10 advances to a second round for final pole positioning.

Carson Hocevar, Grant Enfinger, and Tyler Ankrum—who finished fourth through sixth respectively in Round 1—advanced through the second qualifying round to secure their positions in the opening race.

Week of Racing at Daytona

The truck series opener follows Wednesday and Thursday’s preliminary activities, including Cup Series practice and qualifying. Saturday also features races from the ARCA and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at the same venue, with all events part of the comprehensive Speedweeks schedule.
