Lightning Edge Penguins to Match Franchise Record

Kucherov’s Shootout Goal Lifts Tampa Bay to 11th Straight Victory

The Tampa Bay Lightning extended their dominance with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night, tying the longest winning streak in franchise history at 11 consecutive games.

The lightning game unfolded as a tightly contested battle at PPG Paints Arena, with goaltending proving decisive. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves for Tampa Bay, while Pittsburgh’s Arturs Silovs turned aside 30 shots in a losing effort that marked the Penguins’ third straight defeat.

Key Moments

J.J. Moser gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead late in the third period at 14:13, converting a loose puck after Silovs couldn’t secure a rebound from a Yanni Gourde shot. Pittsburgh answered back when Evgeni Malkin tied the game at 1-1 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.

The lightning vs penguins matchup went to a shootout, where Nikita Kucherov scored the deciding goal. Vasilevskiy stopped shots from Rickard Rakell and Sidney Crosby to secure the win, while Gage Goncalves also scored for Tampa Bay in the shootout.

Streak Significance

The 11-game winning streak represents the longest in the NHL this season and matches Tampa Bay’s previous franchise record set from January 29 to February 17, 2020. The Lightning improved to 29-13-3 with the victory after defeating Philadelphia 5-1 on Monday.

Pittsburgh’s loss dropped them to 21-14-10 on the season. The Penguins have scored just two goals across their last three games, struggling offensively during their recent skid.
