Lakers Eye Sixth Straight Win Over Struggling Kings

Lakers Aim to Extend Dominance Against Kings in Pacific Division Matchup

The Los Angeles Lakers look to extend their six-game winning streak against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Golden 1 Center, as the defending Western Conference contenders face off against one of the league’s struggling franchises in a Pacific Division showdown.[1][2]

The Lakers enter the contest with a 23-13 record and have dominated recent matchups against Sacramento, winning six consecutive games including a 125-101 victory on December 28.[1] Los Angeles is listed as a 9.5-point favorite, reflecting the significant gap between the two teams’ trajectories this season.[2]

Doncic Leads Lakers Despite Recent Shooting Struggles

Luka Dončić continues his league-leading scoring pace, averaging 33.3 points per game for the Lakers, though he had an uncharacteristic 24-point outing on 8-of-25 shooting in Friday’s 105-101 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.[1] LeBron James provides steady support with 28.3 points, 8.5 assists, and 8.3 rebounds this month.[1]

The Lakers will have the services of forward Rui Hachimura, who returns from a six-game absence due to a right calf strain and is expected to contribute off the bench.[1] Los Angeles has lost back-to-back games and six of its past 10, making this matchup against Sacramento an opportunity to regain momentum.[1]

Kings Seek Consistency Without Suspended Schroder

Sacramento, sitting with a league-worst 9-30 record, will be without veteran guard Dennis Schroder as he serves the second game of a three-game suspension for attempting to strike a player following the December 28 meeting with the Lakers.[1] The Kings ended a seven-game losing streak with a victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday, with DeMar DeRozan scoring 22 points as he passed 26,000 career points.[1]

Despite their struggles this season, the Kings have shown fight against quality opponents. Sacramento forward Precious Achiuwa acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating the team “owes” the Lakers after losing convincingly in their recent meetings.[1] Playing at home gives the Kings a chance to compete early, though their lack of size inside puts significant pressure on their rotation players.[2]

Injury Concerns on Both Sides

The Kings are navigating a season disrupted by injuries, with key players sidelined. Adou Thiero is out with a right MCL sprain and not expected back until late January.[2] Sacramento will rely heavily on depth players to compete against an experienced Lakers roster with multiple scoring options.[2]

The game tips off at 10:00 p.m. ET from Sacramento and will be available on NBA League Pass, with local broadcasts on Spectrum SportsNet for Lakers viewers and NBC Sports California for Kings fans.[2]
