Jason Momoa Finally Revealed as Lobo in Supergirl First Look
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn unveiled the long-awaited first proper look at Jason Momoa as the villain Lobo in an exciting new teaser for the upcoming Supergirl film on Friday. The brief but impactful clip features the actor exiting his trailer with a cigar, flashing a signature grin that reveals his character’s menacing fangs before cutting to footage of Momoa’s Lobo laughing astride a motorcycle.
“It’s called making an entrance,” Gunn captioned the 30-second teaser, which also showcases House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El facing various space thugs before Lobo’s grand arrival. The clip, set to Blondie’s “Call Me,” represents a milestone moment for fans eager to see the intergalactic bounty hunter brought to life on screen.
A Dream Role Years in the Making
For Momoa, portraying Lobo represents the culmination of years of expressed passion for the character. In a 2023 interview with Fandango, the actor stated: “I always wanted to play Lobo. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a [definite yes].” His official casting was announced in 2024, marking the beginning of what would become one of the actor’s most anticipated roles.
What to Expect from Supergirl
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed comic book miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film follows the eponymous Kryptonian celebrating her 23rd birthday before meeting Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley). The reluctant superhero then embarks on a quest to face “an unexpected and ruthless adversary.”
The supporting cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. Supergirl is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
