Cignetti was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and became the first coach to win back-to-back AP Coach of the Year awards since the honor’s inception in 1998.

Cignetti’s coaching resume demonstrates his ability to elevate programs across multiple levels. Before arriving at Indiana, he spent six seasons at James Madison University, compiling a 52-9 record while guiding the Dukes’ transition from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision and winning three conference titles.
His success extends further back to his tenure at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he posted a 53-17 record from 2011 to 2016, including three NCAA playoff appearances and two conference championships. He also spent time at Elon University and served nearly three decades as an assistant coach, including four seasons under legendary coach Nick Saban at Alabama.
