India Dominates Netherlands in T20 World Cup Warmup

India Cruises in Group A Finale With Sights on Super 8

India’s cricket team opened with aggressive batting against the Netherlands on Wednesday at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with the India national cricket team vs Netherlands national cricket team match taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India batted first after winning the toss, reaching 51 for 2 in the opening six overs.

The Indians, who have already secured their Super 8 spot with three consecutive victories, treated the final group match as a rhythm-building exercise ahead of their knockout-stage campaign. Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s squad looked to maintain momentum against a Netherlands side fighting for playoff survival.

Opening Struggles for India

India’s innings got off to a rocky start. Abhishek Sharma departed without scoring for the third consecutive duck in the tournament, falling to Netherlands bowler Aryan Dutt in just the third over. The early loss marked another chapter in the opener’s difficult World Cup campaign, despite efforts to reverse his fortunes with a change in jersey.

Ishan Kishan, the tournament’s standout performer, looked set to continue his exceptional run. The left-handed wicketkeeper had accumulated 158 runs through India’s first three matches, including two half-centuries, and offered India stability during the early phase of their innings.

Netherlands’ Slim Hopes

For the Netherlands, this group stage finale represented a last-ditch effort to reach the Super 8. Scott Edwards’ team held just one victory from their opening three matches and needed a substantial win combined with a Pakistan defeat over Namibia to advance. The Dutch side’s focus remained partly on the concurrent Pakistan-Namibia match, which would effectively determine their tournament fate.

Aryan Dutt’s early breakthroughs provided the Netherlands their brightest moment, taking two Indian wickets while conceding just 17 runs across three overs. However, India’s depth and aggression in the 20-over format typically overwhelmed emerging cricket nations.

India’s Path Forward

With Super 8 qualification secured, India could afford to rest key players, with Jasprit Bumrah potentially sidelined in favor of Mohammed Siraj. The strategic rotation allowed the team to balance rest with maintaining their winning momentum heading into the tournament’s decisive stages.

India begins Super 8 play on Sunday against South Africa, their first matchup in the expanded second phase of the competition.
