Giants Add Veteran Play-Caller to Harbaugh’s Coaching Staff
The New York Giants have hired Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator, pairing the veteran play-caller with head coach John Harbaugh in what marks a significant move for the franchise’s offensive direction heading into the 2026 season.
Nagy, 47, spent the last three seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, helping lead the team to a Super Bowl LVIII victory during the 2024 campaign. His contract with the Chiefs ended following the 2025 season, and he elected not to pursue an extension, instead focusing his efforts on interviewing for head coaching opportunities around the league.
Reuniting with Young Talent
With the Giants, Nagy will oversee an offensive unit featuring promising second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers, one of the league’s elite pass-catchers. The assignment provides Nagy with an opportunity to develop young quarterback talent while implementing his offensive schemes in New York.
Andy Reid, Nagy’s mentor during their time together with the Kansas City Chiefs, recently spoke glowingly of his former assistant, stating that the 47-year-old deserved a head coaching opportunity in the NFL. Though a head coaching role may not materialize this offseason, the Giants position positions Nagy to remain in the spotlight as he pursues his ultimate goal.
Nagy’s Coaching Pedigree
Nagy’s résumé includes stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Chicago Bears, where he served as head coach from 2018 to 2021. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2018 after leading the Bears to a 12–4 regular season record. His offensive expertise has been sought across the league, and the Giants are banking on his experience to elevate their offensive performance.
With Harbaugh establishing his New York regime, Nagy’s hiring represents confidence in building a competitive offensive infrastructure capable of supporting the team’s young talent moving forward into the 2026 season and beyond.
