Federal Agents Execute Search Warrants at Arizona Restaurant Chain
Federal agents executed search warrants at all 15 Zipps Sports Grill locations across the Phoenix Valley on Monday as part of a months-long criminal investigation into felony violations of federal law, authorities announced Tuesday.
Homeland Security Investigations, along with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other federal partners, coordinated the operation targeting the restaurant chain’s Valley locations: five in Phoenix, five in Scottsdale, two in Tempe, one each in Glendale, Chandler, and Gilbert.
Investigation Details
The search warrants were authorized based on probable cause presented to a federal judge, according to a statement from HSI. The exact nature of the alleged violations has not been disclosed, though federal authorities confirmed the investigation focuses on criminal activity at the business level.
Agents were observed removing boxes of paperwork and documents from multiple Zipps Sports Grill locations throughout the afternoon. No arrests have been reported as of Tuesday morning, and investigators indicated that additional details would be released as evidence is reviewed and evaluated.
Pattern of Workplace Enforcement
The coordinated raids represent the latest in a series of workplace investigations conducted by federal authorities in Arizona over the past six to eight months. Similar operations have targeted other Valley businesses, including a West Phoenix taco shop, Colt Grill in Prescott, and multiple Sakura Sushi locations, with several business owners arrested on employment-related federal charges.
Community Response
Protesters gathered at multiple Zipps Sports Grill sites during the raids, with some confronting federal agents as they exited buildings. Sheriff’s deputies were stationed at multiple entrances across the Valley locations to maintain order. The situation remained largely peaceful, though authorities reported vehicle windows were damaged during the demonstrations.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, Homeland Security Investigations and other federal law enforcement entities in Arizona remain committed to protecting the public and the homeland, upholding the rule of law, and defending the interests of the American people,” federal authorities stated in a release.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials pledging to provide additional information as the case develops.
