Falcons Officially Announce Tommy Rees as New Offensive Coordinator
The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly finalized an agreement to make Tommy Rees their next offensive coordinator, reuniting the 33-year-old with newly appointed head coach Kevin Stefanski. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Rees will transition from the Cleveland Browns to lead Atlanta’s offensive system in 2026.
Rees was widely considered the favorite for the position since Stefanski was named head coach on Saturday. He joins defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as part of the Falcons’ revamped coaching staff following the departure of former head coach Raheem Morris.
Experience and Background
Despite his relatively young age, Rees brings significant experience to the role. He spent the last two seasons with the Browns under Stefanski, initially serving as passing-game specialist and tight ends coach in 2024 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2025. During the 2025 season, Stefanski ceded playcalling duties to Rees midway through the campaign.
Prior to his NFL tenure, Rees served as offensive coordinator at Alabama during Nick Saban’s final season in 2023, where he won an SEC title. He also held the same position at his alma mater, Notre Dame, from 2020 to 2022.
What Awaits in Atlanta
The pair will inherit a significantly improved offensive situation compared to their Cleveland experience. The Browns finished 30th in total offense (262.1 yards per game) and 31st in scoring (16.4 points per game) in 2025, hampered by quarterback instability.
The Falcons, by contrast, offer a much more promising landscape. The team features elite skill position players including running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London, along with a superior offensive line. Atlanta will need to address the quarterback position following the restructuring of Kirk Cousins’ contract earlier this month, while Michael Penix Jr. continues his recovery from a torn ACL suffered in November.
It remains unclear whether Stefanski or Rees will handle playcalling duties for the Falcons in 2026.
