Country Star Urges Fans to Help ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Reach Billboard Peak
Ella Langley is calling on her fanbase for one final push to make country music history, revealing that her single “Choosin’ Texas” is locked in a tight race for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 against Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need.”
The rising country star took to Instagram Stories early Thursday morning with an urgent plea, emphasizing just how rare the achievement would be. “Less than 10 women in country music have gotten a number one on Billboard,” Langley shared with her followers. “I know we can do it.”
According to Langley, additional iTunes purchases could make the difference between history and a near-miss. “Y’all have put me in a position to do something only a few females in country music have ever done,” she wrote. “I’m being told we’re neck and neck on getting the #1 and if we have one last push on iTunes we might make country music history.”
A Breakout Moment for Country Music
“Choosin’ Texas” has already shattered multiple records heading into this pivotal week. The track surged to No. 1 on the Billboard Streaming Songs chart, becoming just the fourth country song by a lead woman to top that chart in its 13-year history. The song also dominated the U.S. Spotify Chart and Apple Music U.S. Songs Chart, proving its mainstream appeal.
If the single claims the top spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, Langley would join an elite circle of women who have achieved this milestone—a particularly impressive feat for a traditional country song that emphasizes its genre roots without relying on pop collaborations.
Behind the Hit
“Choosin’ Texas” was born during a collaborative writing retreat with industry heavyweights Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor. Langley previously recalled the creative spark: “Miranda, being from Texas, started telling us one of her wild stories about drinkin’ and doing something ridiculous, and I said, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell.’ As soon as I said that, we all just looked at each other like—yep, that’s it!”
The song serves as the lead single from Langley’s forthcoming sophomore album, Dandelion, set to release on April 10. In support of the album, she will headline her Dandelion Tour, a 16-date run kicking off May 7 in Toledo, Ohio, and running through August 15, bringing her to arenas and amphitheaters across the U.S.
