DOJ Releases 3 Million Epstein Files; Trump Mentions Found
The U.S. Department of Justice released over 3 million pages of materials Friday related to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes, fulfilling legal obligations under the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed by Congress in November. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the massive tranche at a press briefing, marking a significant milestone in one of the most scrutinized federal investigations in recent history.
The new epstein files released today include 2,000 videos and 180,000 images related to the Epstein case. The department of justice emphasized that additional materials remain restricted due to their sensitive nature, including images depicting child sexual abuse, personally identifying information of victims, and documents related to ongoing cases.
Trump References Within Released Documents
The newly released materials contain records of interactions involving President Trump. According to FBI documents, an individual identified as “III” told the FBI in 2021 that Ghislaine Maxwell presented a victim to Trump at a party in New York. The witness account indicates the victim later received a tour of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate accompanied by Trump, Epstein, and Maxwell, though the witness clarified nothing occurred between the victim and Trump.
The Trump epstein files materials also contained what the department of justice characterized as “untrue and sensationalist claims” against the president submitted to the FBI. “Some of the documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election,” the DOJ stated. “To be clear, the claims are unfounded and false.” Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing related to Epstein.
Scope of the Release
Of the 6 million total documents in government possession, approximately half remain restricted from public view. A team of over 500 attorneys from the U.S. Department of Justice worked around the clock to review and redact sensitive materials, Blanche said. The department uploaded three data sets to its public website, with one containing over 300,000 items by ABC News’ count.
The epstein files trump release includes previously undisclosed charging documents from Epstein’s 2005 Florida criminal case, detailing 58 of 60 charges involving six alleged victims. The documents also contain thousands of photographs of Epstein’s properties in Manhattan and the U.S. Virgin Islands that were searched by the FBI following his 2019 arrest.
Legislative Timeline
The new epstein files released today followed the Trump administration’s December 19 deadline set by Congress. Earlier batches released in December included photographs of Epstein traveling with prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton. The administration initially cited the need for proper vetting, with hundreds of department employees continuing work to review materials through January.
Content and Redactions
The DOJ disclosed that the production may include materials submitted by the public, some containing unverified or false claims. Redacted categories include victim identifying information, medical files, child sexual abuse imagery, information related to active investigations, and images depicting death or abuse. No files were redacted citing national security concerns, Blanche confirmed.
Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial, sexually exploited dozens of minor girls across his Manhattan and Palm Beach properties. His convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence following her 2021 conviction for sex trafficking of minors.
