Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones Elected to Hall of Fame

Two Center Fielders Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Carlos Beltrán and Andruw Jones, two of baseball’s most accomplished center fielders, were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, capping legendary careers defined by offensive prowess and exceptional defense. The pair will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 26, 2026, alongside second baseman Jeff Kent, who was elected by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee last month.

Beltrán secured his place on his fourth ballot appearance with 358 of 425 votes (84.2%), surpassing the required 75% threshold by 39 votes. Jones achieved the honor in his ninth year on the ballot with 333 votes (78.4%), demonstrating remarkable persistence after receiving just 7.3% support in his initial 2018 election bid.

Beltrán’s Path to Cooperstown

The 48-year-old Beltrán brings a résumé featuring 2,725 career hits, 435 home runs, and 1,587 RBIs across 20 seasons with seven different teams. A nine-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove Award winner, Beltrán won a Roberto Clemente Award and was named MLB Rookie of the Year during his career.

Part of what prolonged Beltrán’s election process was his involvement in the 2017 Astros sign-stealing scandal. However, his postseason performance—a .307 average with 16 home runs across 65 playoff games—and consistent excellence ultimately secured his place in baseball history.

Jones’ Legendary Defense

Jones carved his Hall of Fame legacy primarily through defense, establishing himself as arguably the greatest defensive outfielder in MLB history. The 10-time Gold Glove winner finished his career with 1,933 hits and 434 home runs but is most remembered for his exceptional glove work in center field, ranking first among outfielders in defensive wins above replacement.

In 2005, the 48-year-old led the league in home runs and RBIs while finishing second in National League MVP voting, though his defensive brilliance ultimately defined his Hall of Fame credentials.

2026 Hall of Fame Induction Class

The MLB Hall of Fame class of 2026 features three inductees:

  • Carlos Beltrán (84.2%, 4th ballot appearance)
  • Andruw Jones (78.4%, 9th ballot appearance)
  • Jeff Kent (Contemporary Baseball Era Committee)

The three will be honored during Induction Weekend 2026, held July 24-27 in Cooperstown, New York, with the official induction ceremony on July 26. Also recognized that weekend will be broadcaster Joe Buck, who will receive the Ford C. Frick Award.
