Chicago Bulls Head to Indiana as Feb. 5 Deadline Looms
The Chicago Bulls will look to maintain momentum when they face the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday in Indianapolis, with trade speculation continuing to swirl around their locker room as the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaches.
Chicago enters the matchup looking to bounce back after a 129-118 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday that snapped a four-game winning streak. Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 46 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds, while Coby White paced the Bulls with 23 points and Ayo Dosunmu added 20. Despite strong offensive performances—including 18 made three-pointers and 52.4% shooting from the field—the Bulls couldn’t contain Doncic’s historic performance.
Trade Winds Swirling Around Chicago Roster
The Bulls enter this contest amid significant roster uncertainty. With seven potential free agents on their roster and the Feb. 5 trade deadline fast approaching, several players have been rumored to be on the move in recent weeks, including center Nikola Vucevic, forward Kevin Huerter, forward Zach Collins, and guards Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White.
Despite the trade chatter, Vucevic expressed optimism about the current group. “I enjoy being around these guys. It’s a great group that really wants to be there for each other and play good ball,” Vucevic said. “I would like to see what we can do and where we can go this year, but the front office has to make decisions and we all understand that.”
Pacers Look to Build Momentum
Indiana enters on the heels of a 132-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, with the Hawks scoring 62 points in the final 18 minutes after the Pacers led by 15 at one point. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged the team’s struggles down the stretch, particularly noting poor execution on offense that snowballed into defensive breakdowns.
“Good offense helps feed into good defense,” Carlisle said. “When you struggle on offense, it creates bigger problems defensively, and that was a lot of what happened in the third quarter.”
However, the Pacers received a boost with the return of wing Bennedict Mathurin, who recorded 16 points and two rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench after missing 11 games with a right thumb injury. Forward Jarace Walker has also impressed Carlisle recently, scoring in double figures in seven of his last nine games with 12 points, three assists, seven rebounds and five steals against Atlanta.
Head-to-Head Advantage
The Pacers hold the season series advantage, having won each of the first two meetings against Chicago—a 103-101 home victory on Nov. 29 followed by a 120-105 road win on Dec. 5. The Bulls currently sit at 23-23 (ninth in the Eastern Conference) with a 6-4 record in their last 10 games, while the Pacers are 11-36 (14th in the conference) with a 5-5 mark in their last 10. A victory would improve Chicago’s playoff positioning during a critical stretch.
