Boston College Falls to Florida State in ACC Matchup

Eagles Unable to Keep Pace in Tallahassee

Boston College’s road trip to face Florida State basketball on Tuesday proved unsuccessful as the Eagles fell short against the Seminoles in Tallahassee. The matchup showcased the competitive nature of ACC play, with FSU basketball capitalizing on home-court advantage in the conference contest.

Coming off a disappointing 86-75 home loss to California on Saturday, Boston College (9-16, 2-10 ACC) traveled south hoping to climb back into contention within the conference. However, Florida State (12-13, 5-7 ACC) proved too formidable in front of their home crowd, demonstrating the momentum the Seminoles have built in recent weeks.

Florida State’s Momentum on Display

The Seminoles have emerged as a dangerous opponent in recent contests, securing five victories in their last seven games. Their only recent losses came against tournament contenders SMU and Virginia, while the team has registered notable wins over Miami and Virginia Tech. Florida State’s offensive firepower, led by Robert McCray V averaging 14.7 points per game, created consistent challenges for the Boston College defense throughout the evening.

Martin Somerville, who recorded a team-high 23 points in Florida State’s previous 92-69 victory over Virginia Tech, remained a focal point in the Seminoles’ offensive scheme. The combination of Somerville’s scoring ability and the overall depth of the roster proved difficult for Boston College to contain.

Boston College’s Struggles Continue

The Eagles have faced significant challenges this season, particularly in conference play where they rank near the bottom of the ACC standings. Entering Tuesday’s contest, Boston College had managed just two conference victories, reflecting a difficult stretch through the season’s first half.

Fred Payne led Boston College in their previous outing against California with 16 points, but the team’s overall offensive consistency has remained a concern. The Eagles will look to regroup and find ways to remain competitive as the ACC schedule continues its grind toward March.

What’s Next

Boston College returns home following the road test in Tallahassee, while Florida State continues its push to solidify its NCAA tournament resume with each win at home. The loss marks another step in what has been a challenging season for the Eagles in conference competition.
