One Person in Critical Condition After Border Patrol Shooting in Southern Arizona
A shooting incident involving U.S. Border Patrol in southern Arizona has left one person in critical condition, authorities confirmed Tuesday. The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning near Arivaca, a community south of Phoenix close to the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the Santa Rita Fire District.
Emergency responders provided first aid at the scene and transported the victim to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The FBI described the incident as “an alleged assault on a federal officer,” and authorities say one subject was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigation Underway
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is leading the use-of-force investigation at the request of the FBI. “We are working in coordination with the FBI Phoenix-Tucson office and U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” the sheriff’s department stated in an initial response.
“We ask the community to remain patient and understanding as this investigation moves forward,” officials said as they continued gathering details about the border patrol shooting.
Ongoing Developments
The sheriff’s office has not yet released detailed information about the circumstances leading to the shooting or the identity of those involved. The investigation remains active, with multiple federal and local agencies coordinating their efforts.
This is a developing story. Authorities have indicated additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
