Yankees MVP Returns as Cover Athlete for Upcoming Baseball Simulation
Aaron Judge, the reigning American League MVP, has been revealed as the cover athlete for MLB The Show 26, marking the second time the Yankees superstar has graced the cover of the popular baseball video game. The game will launch on March 17, 2026, with early access beginning March 13 for those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition.
A Historic Return to The Show
Judge’s return to the cover represents a significant moment in franchise history. He joins Joe Mauer as only the second player to appear on MLB The Show cover art more than once. Judge previously appeared on the cover of MLB The Show 18 in 2018, shortly after his explosive rookie season when he set a then-rookie record with 52 home runs and won the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
Since that debut, Judge has solidified his Hall of Fame trajectory. The 33-year-old Yankees captain has become a three-time MVP, seven-time All-Star, and five-time Silver Slugger. Most recently, Judge dominated in 2025, crushing 53 home runs and winning his first batting title with a .331 average.
A Unique Cover Design
This year’s MLB The Show 26 release features a distinctive cover showcasing Judge in both his iconic Yankees pinstripes and his Team USA World Baseball Classic uniform. This marks the first time the game has featured a player in their country’s international jersey, adding historical significance to the reveal.
Judge serves as captain for Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, and the tournament will make a comeback in Diamond Dynasty mode within the game.
What’s Next
Pre-orders for both the Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition open on February 3, 2026, at 12 a.m. EST/9 am PST across TheShow.com, platform stores, and participating retailers. A comprehensive gameplay trailer will also drop on February 3, showcasing new features and surprises for the 2026 edition.
The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, continuing the franchise’s multi-platform approach. Digital Deluxe Edition purchasers will gain four days of early access starting March 13, giving dedicated fans a head start before the full release.
The Show’s Evolution
Judge becomes the first reigning MVP to land on The Show’s cover since Shohei Ohtani in 2022. The cover also represents a return to the game’s traditional single-cover athlete format after MLB The Show 25 featured three rising stars—Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson—simultaneously.
Judge remains the only Yankees player to appear on the flagship edition’s cover in the game’s 21-year history as “The Show.”
